Antigens analyzed are selected based on the number of cells available, morphologic assessment, and patient diagnosis.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics within 8 hours of collection. Specimen accepted Sunday through Thursday anytime. Specimen must be received by 2 p.m. on Friday or the day before a holiday.

 

Specimen Type: Bone marrow aspirate

Container/Tube: Dark-green top (sodium heparin)

Specimen Volume: 5 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Do not centrifuge.

2. An unstained slide or coverslip of bone marrow, to allow for morphologic assessment of the fresh specimen, must be sent with specimen.

Additional Information:

1. Specimen >24 hours old at time of analysis is not acceptable.

2. Fax a copy of completed bone marrow report to the Flow Cytometry Laboratory at 608-263-0910 when available.
