Specimen Requirements

NOTE: This is a "Post Filter" specimen to be drawn off of a port located on the dialysis instrument, directly after the filter.

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Dark-green top (lithium heparin-no gel)

Specimen Volume: 4 mL

Collection Instructions: Keep specimen anaerobic (do not open tube).

 

Alternate:

Specimen Type: Whole blood; gel tube

Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel)

Specimen Volume: 4 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Centrifuge as soon as possible with stopper in place.

2. Keep specimen anaerobic (do not open tube).

Additional Information: Centrifuged specimen is stable up to 2 hours, unopened @ 4°- 8° C

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Lithium heparin blood gas syringe

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions: Place syringe in wet ice immediately after draw.
