Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Specimen must arrive within 15 minutes of draw or <2 hours if kept on ice unopened.
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Dark-green top (lithium
heparin-no gel)
Specimen Volume: 4 mL
Collection Instructions: Keep specimen anaerobic (do not open tube).
Alternate-External Clients:
Specimen Type: Lithium heparin plasma from an unopened PST tube
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel)
Specimen Volume: 3 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Centrifuge as soon as possible.
2. Keep specimen anaerobic (do not open tube).
Additional Information: Centrifuged specimen is stable up to 24 hours.

<4 days: 4.01-5.21 mg/dL
≥4 days-<7 days: 4.61-5.61 mg/dL
≥7 days: 4.51-5.29 mg/dL
